A: They serve as liaisons between the school and community. They are given the opportunity to offer input to school operations such as budgets.
If you have additional questions you may contact Mr. Johnson at 594-7044.

Thanks Education Foundation
An official “thank you shout out” goes to the St. Clair Education Foundation for providing the grant for the Turtle Creek Design Challenge. During this first round the students did a fantastic job. They learned and I learned.
A huge ‘thanks’ is extended to Ellen North and Russ Donaho from the education foundation for their visit to Ashville Middle. They took time out of their busy schedules to watch the kids race their cars, offer words of encouragement and take a picture with the students.

The Track
This is a four lane custom built track. It drops from 5 feet over a track distance of 12 feet. The racing bed is stained orange and the lane dividers are yellow. The track is 32 feet long with 30 feet of actual racing distance. Scale speeds of over 200 mph have been achieved on this track! It has a lever operated staring mechanism that activates a computer timing system. The photo detectors in each lane allows for accurate timing to the millisecond or thousandths of a second!

Turtle Creek Design Challenge

Attention Students of Ms. Nugher’s 2nd period Exploratory class:
Congratulations! You have been chosen to participate in the Turtle Creek Design Challenge. This will be no small feat. Your task for the immediate future is to research, design, produce, and race a car in the Turtle Creek Pinecar Race. Additionally, your car will be judged by your peers based upon the uniqueness, “buyability”, style, and functionality of your car. Throughout the challenge you will encounter opportunities to acquire funds. The winner of the Turtle Creek Design Challenge will be the person or team who has acquired the greatest net worth at the end of the challenge. The net worth will be based upon the final value of the car and the money in your account.
The Turtle Creek Design Challenge will address three main objectives: You will identify, develop, and solve real world problems associated with tangible, relevant goals. You will understand and use math as a means to an end rather than treating math as a subject of isolation. You will be exposed to research based strategies that include reinforcement of effort, cooperative learning and generating hypothesis of experiential learning. Sounds like deep concepts for 7th graders? I have faith that you can accomplish this feat and have a great time. If you are willing, then let’s get started
